[MLUG] Improving performance

Ok, lets try to pitch in to correct this problem.

First, for the load average to have any meaning, we need your
/proc/cpuinfo. I've seen customer saying their 2.0 load average was
totally unnaceptable on a 2CPU, 2Core system. We need some
perspective.

I would also be interested in detail on your hard-drive and filesystem
selection. If it is ext3, Is dir_index activated ? (we can help you
through this test). What is your current I/O Scheduler ? (cat
/sys/block/"your_hd_device"/queue/scheduler We need to know what is
in bracket and what is not).

I would also suggest installing iostat and vmstat. Having them run in
the background taking reading while you start your program should help
you have a very good idea of where your bottle neck is located.
