I have been with acanac.net since July, and have had only accolades for
them. Good prompt service, and no outages. The $19.95 rate is based on
prepayment for a year.
Lowest speed that I had is 513kb (bytes) per second. Downloads are
essentially unlimited while uploads are limited to 60 gigs.
The thing I would recommend is to not take their modem/router. There is
nothing wrong with it, as it is a simple device without a built-in wireless
router. So, with their modem, you need to purchase a wireless router,
especially if you are going for more then one system on at a time.
My other cost from acanac is a dry loop, at $8.00 per month, which
Acanac.net bills me.
For the second and future years, the internet access is $29.95 per month,
but with cash up front, you can probably get it at the special rate
indicated on their website.
Regarding teksavvy, I have no experience since I started with Acanac. DSL
is DSL, and so one is limited to DSL speeds. Perhaps teksavvy will match
the acanac.net deal. (Acanac.net is in Toronto).
My configuration is as follows: acanac.net modem --> Vonage VOIP box
(Motorola) --> Netgrear 4port + wireless router..
So, I am doing voip along with internet. Acanac.net also supports VOIP,
for a better rate then Vonage. I just haven't bothered to switch from
Vonage, and probably switch when I get around to it. The hesitation I have
is due to having to reconfigure the Motorola device.
